2022 - Ukraine Crisis, Deployments
Ukraine Invasion Conflict war
2023-02-24 – Like many of you, we’re watching the events unfolding in Ukraine. Every life affected by war, instability and disaster is a tragedy – and we believe everyone should have the healthcare they need when crises or disaster hits. As always, we’re continuing to monitor the situation and remain ready to provide emergency support when called.

CMAT’s final shipment of medical supplies arrives in Haïti

2021 - Haïti Earthquake, Blog, Deployments, News

October 2, 2021 – CMAT is pleased to report our final shipment of medical supplies and equipment has arrived in Port au Prince this morning. We were thrilled to partner with Stryker Canada/ Stryker Emergency Care to send a large donation of orthopaedic surgical appliances to Haïti, to help with repairing fractures. Huge thanks also go out to Not Just Tourists, and Cleveland Clinic Canada for donating additional wound care and medical supplies.

August 29, 2021 – With huge thanks to our friends at Not Just Tourists Toronto, University Health Network, Cleveland Clinic Canada, Health Partners International of Canada, and our very generous donors, Canadian Medical Assistance Teams was able to gather desperately needed medical supplies and equipment to send TWO shipments to Haiti, to be distributed by HERO Rescue. We hope to send a third shipment very soon!

CMAT Medics continue to assist with medical evacuation and triage in Haïti

2021 - Haïti Earthquake, Blog, Deployments, News

August 29, 2021 – Port au Prince, Haïti: Once our field assessment was complete, CMAT Assessment Teams members spent countless hours working alongside team members from HERO, Ayiti Air Anbilans, U.S. Coast Guard, MEDIC Corps, and others. We triaged, stabilized and helped to medevac critically injured patients from southern Haïti to Port-au-Prince for a higher level of care.

CMAT Assessment team continues its work in Haïti

2021 - Haïti Earthquake, Blog, Deployments, News

August 21, 2021 – Port au Prince, Haiti: The last chopper of the day landed after 9pm last night. Dark had already set in but the tarmac was well lit.

A woman who appeared 9 months pregnant, but said she was only 7 months was transferred from Les Cayes with a shattered pelvis. She also presented with a BP of 270/160. There was no fetal doppler available, but HERO medics mentioned they had a Butterfly Handheld Ultrasound device.

With military helicopter rotors spinning, and ambulance lights flashing, our team leader and Nurse Practitioner Valerie Rzepka performed an obstetric ultrasound on the patient, right on the tarmac at the airport in Port-au-Prince.

It took a moment looking at the image to figure out what was going on… One heartbeat…. Two heartbeats… the patient was having twins… and both twins had strong heartbeats!!! The IV medication dropped her BP, and she was placed in the ambulance to transport to hospital for a c-section and repair of her pelvic fracture.

Hurricane Melissa left thousands without access to medical care.

Today, on Day 1, CMAT’s mobile clinic is treating the injured, the sick & the displaced.
We’re urgently raising $50,000 to continue this work. Every donation helps. Link in bio.
