Posted @withregram • @nattraumacentre Congratula Posted @withregram • @nattraumacentre Congratulations! The @ausgov's AUSMAT capability has been re-verified as an internationally classified Emergency Medical Team (#EMT) Type 2.
The capability was peer reviewed by colleagues Dr Narumol Sawanpanyalert from Thailand and Mr Paul Callaghan from New Zealand on Monday 25 September along with the Director of Country Readiness and Strengthening, @WHO Headquarters, Dr Nedret Emiroglu, Network Leader of EMT Initiative Mr Flavio Salio and Mr Sean Casey from WHO EMT Regional Focal Point WPRO.
AUSMAT members from around Australia also participated in the visit along with a representative from the Australian Government @healthgovau Emergency Management Branch, and representatives from the Republic of Indonesia Defence University to learn from the opportunity.
In 2016 AUSMAT was globally verified as an EMT Type 2 surgical field hospital by the WHO. Since then AUSMAT has provided assistance at numerous disasters and emergencies including 26 national and international AUSMAT missions from January 2019 to September 2023.
Environment Canada extends hurricane watch to Hali Environment Canada extends hurricane watch to Halifax as Lee creeps closer.
The agency says Lee will move into western Nova Scotia and southern New Brunswick on Saturday, bringing heavy rains, high winds, and powerful waves.
The storm is expected to transition from a Category 1 hurricane to a strong post-tropical storm as it makes landfall on Saturday evening, anywhere from Grand Manan Island in New Brunswick to Shelburne County in Nova Scotia.

A further 10,100 people are reported missing in the Mediterranean city.
Daniel, an unusually strong Mediterranean storm, caused deadly flooding in communities across eastern Libya, but the worst-hit was Derna. As the storm pounded the coast Sunday night, residents said they heard loud explosions when two dams outside the city collapsed. Floodwaters gushed down Wadi Derna, a valley that cuts through the city, crashing through buildings and washing people out to sea.
CMAT has sent an offer of assistance and is awaiting a reply.

The startling death and devastation wreaked by Mediterranean storm Daniel pointed to the storm's intensity, but also the vulnerability of a nation torn apart by chaos for more than a decade. The country is divided by rival governments, one in the east, the other in the west, and the result has been neglect of infrastructure in many areas.

2023-09-10- CMAT wishes to provide an update on th 2023-09-10- CMAT wishes to provide an update on the recent earthquake that occurred in Morocco on September 8 at 23:11 GMT+1.
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 6.8, struck a normally seismically quiet area of Morocco, approximately 70 km away from Marrakesh. Regrettably, we have received reports of over 2,000 fatalities, and the number of injured individuals continues to rise.
In response to this devastating event, the CMAT Board of Directors promptly convened to assess the situation and initiate preliminary response procedures. Our initial actions included registering with the Virtual On-Site Operations Coordinating Center (VOSOCC) facilitated by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Additionally, we extended an offer of assistance to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ottawa.
As of now, only a limited number of international search and rescue teams with pre-existing bilateral governmental agreements have been granted access to the affected area. Currently, the response efforts are primarily managed at the local level, and the Kingdom of Morocco has not requested further international aid at this time. Like CMAT, all other international teams are currently on standby, awaiting guidance.
We sincerely appreciate your eagerness to deploy and assist. However, in adherence to the guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO) respecting the right of governments to manage their own domestic affairs, CMAT will continue to stand by until we receive formal acceptance of our offer.
In preparation for future events, we kindly request that all volunteers interested in international deployment complete the recommended e-curriculum, attached below, which we anticipate making mandatory in the near future. Volunteers who have completed this e-curriculum will be given priority.
Rest assured that we will keep you informed as more information from Morocco becomes available. We are immensely grateful to all our dedicated volunteer CMATers for your unwavering support.
Thank you for your commitment to our mission.

Our thoughts are with the victims of the devastating earthquake.

Goats climbing a tree, Morocco, 2016. It's such a beautiful, unique country and I'm so sad the recent earthquake has injured/killed so many and destroyed homes. My medical response NGO, @CMATeams, is standing by to see if teams like ours are requested by the Moroccan govt/UN.
