October 6, 2010 – Canadian Medical Assistance Teams’ (CMAT) third Primary Health Care Team arrived in Karachi earlier today, and is travelling to work in Pakistan’s flooded region of Sukkur, in interior Sindh province. CMAT’s Primary Health Care team will provide mobile medical clinics for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps housing thousands of people, including women and children who would otherwise be unable to access health services.

TORONTO: September 28, 2010 – An estimated 1700 people have been displaced since Friday night’s six-alarm fire at 200 Wellesley Street East, Toronto Community Housing building, and won’t have access to their homes for the remainder of the week.

The building is a social housing structure operated by the Toronto Community Housing Corp., the largest such apartment in the city. Its residents count among Toronto’s poorest and most vulnerable residents.

September 24, 2010 – Canadian Medical Assistance Teams’ (CMAT) second Primary Health Care, which arrived in Karachi a few days ago, is now working in Pakistan’s flooded region of Sukkur, in interior Sindh province.  In collaboration with Pakistani Federal and Provincial authorities, and other NGO partners on the ground, the team identified an area in Sukkur, Sindh Province, approximately a 500km north of Karachi. The immediate vicinity is home to 5-6 internally displace persons (IDP) camps, with population of several thousand.

September 12, 2010: The Conservative government announced Sunday it will continue to match Canadians’ donations to flood-ravaged Pakistan for another three weeks. House Leader John Baird told an Ottawa news conference the government will continue to match every dollar of private donations, extending its original six-week program that was to expire on Sunday. The government’s contribution goes into its own Pakistan Flood Relief Fund, which is distributed to both Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations.

September 10, 2010 – Canadian Medical Assistance Teams’ (CMAT) Assessment team, which arrived in Karachi a few days ago, confirmed yesterday the need for Primary Health Care teams to be deployed to Pakistan’s flooded regions. CMAT Team 1 left Toronto’s Pearson Airport late Friday afternoon, and will take with them nearly one half tonne of medical supplies and water purification equipment.
