Thursday December 23, 2010 – The cholera epidemic continues to affect the people of Haiti, and this is a true emergency situation. CMAT has been asked by our colleagues at UNICEF for assistance in their response.
The emergency responders on ground in Haiti need immediate help, and UNICEF staffers are searching for FRENCH or CREOLE-speaking health providers: nurses, paramedics, and other trained health professionals to assist in their response. This language requirement is mandatory, and UNICEF hopes to have some people on the ground as early as next week, if possible.

Duties in support of UNICEF Haiti’s cholera response

UNICEF is looking for 15 to 20 health professionals who can speak French (or Creole) and work in Haiti for 3 months to carry out the following tasks:
- Actively participate in case management in Cholera Treatment Centres (CTCs)/Cholera Treatment Units (CTUs);
- Train local medical staff (nurses) working in CTCs/CTUs;
- Ensure supervision of training of local nurses on cholera case management through regular visits;
- Support management (including supply) and functioning of CTCs/CTUs;
- French or Creole language needed;
- Strong experience in cholera or in diarrhea management;
- Ideal candidates should be open to meeting at least the minimum of 6 weeks, if not the full 3 months;
- Transportation will be covered to and from Haiti and a per diem will be provided for their living expenses;Most of the placements will be outside of Port-au-Prince in the North, Northwest and Northeast;
- Physicians, residents, paramedics, and other licensed health workers will also be considered.
